Come Walk With Us!

Join the Porch & Pup Pack

Do you take walkies very seriously? Do you genuinely love dogs, enjoy being outside, and want flexible part-time work that doesn’t involve sitting behind a desk all day?

Porch & Pup is a family-run dog walking and pet-care company serving Mount Pleasant and the Charleston area. We’re building a small, dependable team of dog people who will care for our clients’ pets like they’re part of the family.

This isn’t just popping in, clipping on a leash, and leaving. Our clients trust us with their pets, homes, routines, and peace of mind. We’re looking for people who understand that responsibility—and are genuinely excited to see their dogs every week.

The Schedule

Our pet-care visits take place seven days a week, generally between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. Opportunities may include:

  • Recurring weekday walks between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

  • Early-morning vacation visits between 7 and 9 a.m.

  • Evening visits between 5 and 7 p.m.

  • Late-night visits between 8 and 10 p.m.

  • Weekends, holidays, and occasional overnight care

You don’t need to be available all day or every day. We’re looking for people with consistent blocks of availability that we can regularly schedule.

That could mean weekday middays, evenings after work, recurring weekend availability, or a combination that fits your schedule.

You’ll tell us when you’re regularly available, and we’ll use that availability—along with your location and our clients’ needs—to build your schedule.

We understand that life happens and schedules occasionally change. However, reliability is a big deal here. Once you accept a scheduled visit, a dog and their family are counting on you to be there.

What You’ll Actually Be Doing

Most visits are approximately 25–30 minutes, with drive time between clients’ homes.

During your visits, you may:

  • Walk dogs and provide potty breaks, exercise, playtime, and plenty of attention

  • Care for cats and other household pets

  • Serve meals, refresh water, and provide routine medications as instructed

  • Follow each pet’s individual routine and detailed care instructions

  • Send clients a visit report with photos after every visit

  • Notice and report anything unusual involving a pet or the client’s home

  • Keep pets safe in Charleston’s heat, humidity, rain, and changing weather

  • Work independently while knowing the Porch & Pup team is available when you need support

Who We’re Looking For

You may be a great fit for the Porch & Pup pack if you:

  • Are genuinely obsessed with dogs and genuinely nice person

  • Have meaningful hands-on experience caring for animals

  • Are comfortable with different breeds, sizes, ages, energy levels, and personalities

  • Can confidently and safely walk two dogs from the same household

  • Are dependable and take commitments seriously

  • Pay close attention to details and follow written instructions

  • Communicate clearly and ask questions when something doesn’t seem right

  • Are comfortable entering clients’ homes and working independently

  • Make calm, responsible decisions when you’re on your own

  • Extremely patient, sweet, and kind-hearted with animals

  • Enjoy being active and working outdoors

  • Are comfortable using your smartphone for scheduling, GPS tracking, directions, photos, and visit reports

  • Want consistent part-time work and can commit to the team for at least six months—ideally longer

Previous professional pet-care, veterinary, shelter, rescue, training, or animal-handling experience is wonderful, but it isn’t required for the right person.

What You’ll Need

  • You must be at least 18 years old

  • You must live in or reasonably close to our Mount Pleasant service area

  • North Mount Pleasant, Park West, Dunes West, and Carolina Park availability is especially helpful

  • You must have a reliable vehicle, valid driver’s license, and current auto insurance

  • You must have a smartphone with dependable internet access

  • You must be comfortable driving between clients’ homes

  • You must be able to safely manage the physical demands of dog walking and pet care

  • You must be comfortable walking, bending, climbing stairs, handling leashes, and working outside in heat, humidity, and light rain

  • You must be willing to complete a background check and paid training

Pay & Perks

  • Starting at $18 per standard 30-minute visit

  • Additional compensation for certain services, additional dogs, and holidays

  • 100% of client tips

  • Paid training and shadow visits

  • Porch & Pup shirts and gear

  • Flexible part-time scheduling based on your regular availability

  • The opportunity to grow into a lead walker or pet-care team position

  • Support from a small, family-run team that takes pet care seriously—but doesn’t take itself too seriously

The number of visits and hours available will vary based on your availability, location, client demand, and the service area you cover.

A Few Important Things

This is an active, independent job. You’ll spend a lot of time driving, walking, taking photos, checking instructions, and communicating through your phone.

Some days will be sunny and easy. Other days will involve muddy paws, Charleston humidity, an enthusiastic golden retriever who forgot how leashes work, or a cat who is deeply unimpressed by your arrival.

If that still sounds like your kind of work, we’d love to meet you.
